PhD Seminar on Modelling, optimization and manufacturing of meta-biomaterials
Eng. Andrea Sorrentino (DISMI-Unimore)
Date: 13/07/23 (Thursday)
Room: Classroom F0.6 @ Buccola-Bisi bld. (Via G. Amendola 2, 42122, Reggio Emilia)
Duration: 4 hours
Time schedule: 9:00 13:00
Language: English
PhD credits: 1 ECTS
Contents: Meta-biomaterials are engineered biomaterials with unusual mechanical and biological properties that primarily originate from their geometrical architecture rather than their chemical composition. The capacity to tailor the structural response of these metamaterials opens up a wide range of possible designer materials, together with the advances in additive manufacturing technologies (i.e. 3D-printing), thus enabling the fabrication of novel biomaterials that mimic the mechanical behavior of living tissues.
In this context, the scope of this 4-hour lecture is to provide a basis understanding of design, optimization and manufacturing of meta-biomaterials.
The following topics will be covered in the lecture:
- Biomaterials: an introduction;
- Meta-biomaterials: definition and classification;
- Modelling, optimization and manufacturing of 3D-printed meta-biomaterials;
- Auxetic meta-biomaterials: design principles and applications.
Registration: Students interested in participating should send an email confirming their interest to andrea.sorrentino@unimore.it
